Micheál Martin

Question:

493 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she recognises the very serious difficulties young children experience in rural Ireland as a result of the school transport system; and the steps, if any, she intends to take to redress this difficulty. [15525/96]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 492 and 493 together. There is no School Transport Act, 1967, but there is a school transport scheme, which is administered by my Department. The terms of the scheme are currently being examined by the school transport review committee, which is expected to make recommendations later this year.
