Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Leitrim School.

Declan Bree

Question:

549 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Education if she will allow a school (details supplied) in County Leitrim to retain its three teachers; if her attention has been drawn to the concern among parents regarding the possible loss of a teacher; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16100/96]

I am aware of the concern amongst parents of children attending the school to which the Deputy refers at the loss of a teacher at the school.

However, the staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy was 52 pupils on 30 September 1995. This enrolment warrants a staffing of a principal and one assistant teacher for the 1996-97 school year. In the circumstances, the second assistant's post at the school has been suppressed.
