Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Deportation File.

Declan Bree

Question:

691 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Justice if a file which relates to the deportation of a person (details supplied) who was deported from Ireland by the Government in 1933, will be made available for public inspection; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16017/96]

Despite an intensive search on foot of a previous request for information on the person in question, my Department has been unable to locate a file bearing his name or with the reference number referred to in the question. It is possible that such a file is held in storage by the National Archives but my Department has been advised that all attempts by that office to locate it have also so far approved fruitless.

In the circumstances the Deputy will appreciate that it is not a question of my deciding whether the file should be made available for public inspection. On the assumption the file still exists and in the event of it being located, I will give every reasonable consideration to the Deputy's request to make it available for public inspection.
