Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Legal Actions Pending.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

934 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the legal actions, if any, pending against him since he took office, including actions arising from the controversies involving the board of CIÉ and the anonymous letters affair of 1995; the legal actions, if any, he is currently pursuing on foot of those matters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15650/96]

As Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications, I have been named as a respondent in judicial review applications being sought by a former chairman of Córas Iompair Éireann who is seeking, inter alia, his reinstatement as chairman of the CIE group and in a judicial review being sought by a former member of the CIE board who is seeking, inter alia, her reinstatement as a board member.

With regard to the reference in the Deputy's question to the anonymous letters affair of last year, legal proceedings have issued against me in both my ministerial and my personal capacity. Any actions initiated by me in my personal capacity are my affair and will be dealt with by me in the normal manner.
