Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Residential Property Tax Yield.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

91 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the expected total yield from the residential property tax in each of the years 1995 and 1996; the total number of individuals making such payments in each of these years; the number of payments which exceeded £1,000, £5,000 and over; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15426/96]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that in 1995 the yield from residential property tax was £12.1 million and the number of taxpayers was, approximately, 20,000.

Tax in respect of the valuation date 5 April 1996 is not due until 1 October next so it is not possible at this stage to say what the actual yield or the number of taxpayers will be in 1996. However, the projected yield for 1996 is £13 million.
The breakdown sought by the Deputy in respect of payments received in respect of the valuation date 5 April 1995 is as shown on the following table.
