Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 56 and 57 together. According to the North-Western Health Board there are up to 1,108 persons (476 people with mental handicap and 632 people with physical disabilities) in Donegal residing at home who benefit from respite care.
Respite care is currently provided throughout the North-Western Health Board region by means of (i) support into the home i.e. carers, (ii) the home to home scheme and (iii) respite care places in the mental handicap units, community hospitals and physical handicap residential units.
There are currently 21 respite care places available in mental handicap units in Donegal. In addition, the Little Angels Association in Letterkenny provides weekend respite care and holiday respite during the month of August.
