Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

170 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Education if she will appoint a second teacher to Derryglinna school, for the school year 1996/1997, in view of the number of pupils currently attending this school and in view of the fact that this is a one teacher school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17891/96]

I propose to Question Nos. 169 and 170 together.

The enrolment of Derryglinna national school on 30 September 1995 was 20 pupils. This warrants a staffing of a principal only for the 1996-97 school year.
I understand that the current enrolment at the school is 21 pupils. The maximum class size guideline for one teacher schools with more than four standards is 28 pupils. In the circumstances, there is no basis for allocating additional staffing in this school for the current school year.
