Question:

161 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education the number of model schools where the medium of instruction is through Irish; and whether such schools are interdenominational or denominational. [18095/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 159, 160 and 161 together.

There are nine model schools in the Republic of Ireland located in: Athy, County Kildare; Bailieboro, County Cavan; Monaghan Town; Dunmanway, County Cork; Limerick city; Galway city; Central Model junior, Marlborough St., Dublin; Central Model senior, Marlborough St., Dublin; Scoil Chaoimhín, Marlborough St., Dublin.

All model schools are denominational. The schools in Athy, Bailieboro, Monaghan and Dunmanway are under the Church of Ireland denomination while the remainder are Catholic.

There are three model schools where the medium of instruction is through Irish. The schools are: Scoil Fhursa, Galway city; Limerick model school; Scoil Chaoimhín, Marlborough St., Dublin. These schools are denominational under the Catholic Church.
