Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tramore (Waterford) Sewerage Scheme.

Godfrey Timmins

Question:

40 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment if he has applied to the EU for additional funding required for the provision of an outfall pipe at Tramore sewerage scheme, County Waterford; and whether he intends to provide the finance needed from his Department. [17541/96]

An application for Cohesion Fund assistance for stage 2 of the Tramore sewerage scheme has been submitted to the EU Commission. The application covers the completion of the planning of the scheme, the carrying out of the necessary site investigation work, including site investigations for a long sea-outfall, and the construction of the treatment plant. The Commission's decision is awaited.

I have recently approved the council's proposal to carry out site investigations for an alternative outfall. My Department has advised the council that a new environmental impact statement should be prepared in respect of any new outfall arrangements.
