Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Use Policy.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

43 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the progress, if any, which has been made with regard to the development and implementation of a national land use policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17900/96]

My Department is preparing a series of guidelines on land use policy issues for the guidance of local planning authorities and which, together, will provide a comprehensive national and local framework for land use planning. Guidelines on telecommunications antennae and support structures were published on 31 July and guidelines on wind farm development were published on 19 September. Copies are available in the Oireachtas Library. Guidelines on forestry development, high amenity landscapes and the scope and content of development plans are now being prepared. Priorities for further topics are being considered in the context of the sustainable development strategy which is currently at an advanced stage of preparation in my Department.
