Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Loan Repayments.

Ivor Callely

Question:

89 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach the amount paid in interest on loans from financial institutions by semi-State bodies under the aegis of his Department since 1992; if he has satisfied himself with such arrangements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17957/96]

None of the semi-State bodies under the aegis of my Department is repaying loans to financial institutions. Area Development Management Limited, an independent company which implements the area partnership programme on behalf of my Department and the European Commission, incurred interest costs of £41,826 in 1993 on an overdraft facility which was necessary because of delays in the receipt of EU funds.

The interest paid by APSO on overdrafts since 1992 is as follows:

1992

£2,496 (includes interest and bank charges)

1993

£3,870 (includes interest and bank charges)

1994

£6,512 (interest charge only)

1995

£4,018 (interest charge only)

None of the other agencies under the aegis of the Department of Foreign Affairs has had a loan of any kind and therefore they have never incurred interest payments.
