Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - VAT Returns.

James McDaid

Question:

138 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Finance the VAT returns from car hire, accommodation, restaurant food and sale of on-sale alcohol, not off-licence; the total VAT for County Donegal under these categories; and the percentage take for County Donegal as against the national take. [18260/96]

The total net VAT yield for 1996 in respect of the sectors listed is estimated at: car hire, £6.9 million; hotel and guest house accommodation, £29.6 million; restaurant meals, £119.0 million and alcohol, £393.2 million. The amount shown for alcohol is the estimated total net yield in respect of all such sales. Statistics are not available to enable a breakdown to be made between licence and off-licence sales. In addition, VAT yield statistics are not maintained on a county by county basis.
