Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Transfer from UK.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

217 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Justice if she will review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath to enable him to obtain a transfer from the United Kingdom to an institution here. [19052/96]

The application for a transfer from the person referred to by the Deputy was formally transmitted by the UK authorities on 18 September 1996.

My Department then forwarded it to the Chief State Solicitor's Office for advice in accordance with the provisions of the Transfer of Sentenced Persons Act, 1995. This advice has recently been received. My Department has also written to the person's mother and asked her to provide some information in relation to the application. When this information has been received the application will be submitted to me for decision.
