Vol. 470 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sexual Harassment Allegation.

Michael McDowell

Question:

253 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is investigating allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power in relation to a departmental funded community project (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19395/96]

The allegations made in the letter I have received are extremely serious. I understand that the letter I received is one of a number of letters that have been written and are in circulation locally. I further understand that the letters have been referred to the gardaí on behalf of the person complained of for investigation of any criminal aspect.

Pending the outcome of the Garda investigation, there is no further action appropriate to my Department that may be taken.
