Vol. 470 No. 8

Written Answers. - Student Placement.

Helen Keogh

Question:

104 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Dublin, who suffers from attention deficity hyperactive disorder, may be placed in a suitable school as soon as possible. [20150/96]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.

The selection and enrolment of pupils in secondary schools is, in the first instance, the responsibility of individual schools. In cases such as this, my Department endeavours, by a process of consultation with school management, to have the pupil in question placed in a school in his locality. These efforts, which by their nature can take some time, are ongoing in this case and every effort is being made to find an appropriate placement.
