Micheál Martin

A reply will issue to the Deputy in due course advising of the Department's decision in this case.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Question:

133 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Education if she will make a grant available to assist parents (details supplied) in County Galway with the transport of their daughter to and from a school bus pick-up point in view of the fact that these journeys involve two return trips of 43 miles each way per week, giving a weekly total mileage of 172 miles; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20556/96]

On the basis of the information supplied by the Deputy, it would appear that the parents of the child in question would be entitled to grant assistance in respect of the costs incurred in transporting the child to and from the pick-up point.

To date, my Department has not received any application for such assistance. However, I have requested my officials to investigate the matter with a view to determining whether a grant can be paid in this case.
