Question:152 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Justice the number of Garda cars currently available in the Donegal division; and if she will give a breakdown of where these cars are based. [20505/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas. They have expressed concern, and I share that concern, about providing the detailed information sought by the Deputy on the grounds of security and in the interest of crime prevention generally. However, they have informed me that there is a total of 55 vehicles allocated to the Donegal Garda division at present. I understand that 12 of these vehicles are on temporary allocation to the division to meet current operational requirements.
