Vol. 471 No. 3

Written Answers. - Angling Facilities Development.

Brendan Smith

Question:

80 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Marine the progress, if any, which has been made in relation to an application by the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board under the Tourism Angling Programme to develop facilities on Loughs Sheelin, Ennel and Owel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20726/96]

The project entitled enhancement of the trout spawning and nursery streams of Loughs Ennell and Sheelin has been undergoing evaluation by the tourism angling measure's evaluation and management committees since April. The committees, which function independently and comprise officials of my Department, the Department of Tourism and Trade, the Marine Institute, the Central Fiseries and Board Fáilte, sought additional information from the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board which was necessary to inform the evaluation and decision-making process.

I am advised that the additional information will be considered at the next meeting of the evaluation and management committees at which stage a decision on the application will be made.
