Vol. 471 No. 4

Written Answers - Security and Insulation Pilot Schemes.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

242 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether the pilot schemes which currently provide security and insulation for the homes of the elderly could be expanded on a pilot project basis initially to provide moneys to replace insecure doors and windows; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20933/96]

As I indicated in my reply to a similar question tabled by the Deputy on 5 November 1996 my Department provides funding under the scheme of community support for older people for equipment such as small-scale physical security equipment such as strengthening of doors and windows, window locks, door chains and locks and security equipment; and socially monitored alarm systems.

Funding for the replacement of doors and windows is available under the special housing aid for the elderly scheme, which is administered by the health boards, and the essential repairs grant scheme, which is administered by local authorities.
