242 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether the pilot schemes which currently provide security and insulation for the homes of the elderly could be expanded on a pilot project basis initially to provide moneys to replace insecure doors and windows; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As I indicated in my reply to a similar question tabled by the Deputy on 5 November 1996 my Department provides funding under the scheme of community support for older people for equipment such as small-scale physical security equipment such as strengthening of doors and windows, window locks, door chains and locks and security equipment; and socially monitored alarm systems.
