267 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the excess amount of milk over the quota in Ireland for each of the past five years; the projected surplus over quota for each of the years 1996 and 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21053/96]

The following are details of over quota production for the past five years.

The 1996-97 quota year is not yet complete. However, at the end of September 1996, milk deliveries were running at 4.8 per cent over quota when calculated over the same period. If milk deliveries for the remainder of this quota year remained unchanged on last year, the overshoot by the end of the 1996-97 milk year would be 30 million gallons.
