Vol. 471 No. 4

Written Answers - Pension Requirements.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

46 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Finance the number of pensionable service years required for full pension purposes in respect of lawyers in the public service. [20831/96]

Established civil servants, including lawyers, require 40 years' pensionable service to qualify for maximum pension. In the case of civil servants with professional legal qualifications the actual service required would range from 30 to 40 years depending on whether, and to what extent, the officer would fall to benefit under section 6 of the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1963, or the added years scheme introduced on foot of the 1984ad hoc arbitration finding. The added years fall to be determined at the time of retirement.
