Tony Gregory

Question:

74 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health if the Eastern Health Board received a request from a community group in O'Devaney Gardens, Dublin 7, for assistance to provide a counselling service for a number of drug users; if so, his response to this request; and the procedures by which such assistance should be sought in the future. [21486/96]

Limerick East): Applications from community groups for assistance in the treatment of drug misuse should be addressed to the Eastern Health Board which has responsibility for the provision of such services and deciding on the merits of such applications.

The board has informed me that it has received a request from a community group in O'Devaney Gardens, Dublin 7, for assistance to provide a drug treatment service. The board met the group on 18 October to discuss its application and further negotiations are ongoing on the provision of services in the area. The board, in co-operation with the group, is currently investigating possible locations for the service.
