Vol. 471 No. 8

Written Answers. - Temporary Release of Prisoners.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

28 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice the reason she refuses to give temporary release or parole to a prisoner (details supplied) in order that he can visit his mother, who has been unable to visit him for two years due to ill health and old age, in spite of the fact that other prisoners in a similar situation have been granted such releases; if she will reconsider her refusal to grant parole due to the circumstances of this case and in view of other family reasons known to her; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20439/96]

I can inform the Deputy that, for compassionate reasons, I recently approved a period of temporary release for this prisoner.
