Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Gas Price Increase.

Ray Burke

Question:

309 Mr. R. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the increase in gas prices being imposed on the horticultural growers of north County Dublin; the action, if any, he will take in this regard; and if he will have arrangements made to meet a delegation of growers from the area. [22626/96]

I am not aware of any recent increase in the price of gas to horticultural growers in north County Dublin. I understand from An Bord Gáis that the initial gas price to these growers allowed for the recovery of investment in capital required for the conversion to natural gas and that subsequently a new pricing regime was agreed with representatives of the growers which is gradually bringing the price of natural gas into line with other natural gas users of similar size. As part of this agreement there is a provision for a review of the situation at the end of this year.

In view of this forthcoming review I have asked An Bord Glas to arrange a meeting with An Bord Gáis and representatives of the growers regarding the matter.
