Vol. 472 No. 4

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Tony Gregory

Question:

114 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 was refused a higher education grant; and if this decision will be reviewed. [23453/96]

The individual referred to by the Deputy is pursuing an LLB degree, awarded by the University of Wales, at Portobello College. This course is not an approved course under the terms of the higher education grants scheme and accordingly the student is not eligible for a grant under the terms of the scheme.

The course is, however, an approved course for the purposes of tax relief on qualifying fees paid, under the provisions of section 6 of the Finance Act, 1995.
