Vol. 472 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Joe Costello

Question:

193 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the work being done by the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; and if he will grant-aid the society in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24107/96]

Mary Harney

Question:

212 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has received an application for funding from the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; and, if so, when a decision will be made in relation to the application. [23885/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 193 and 212 together.

As I indicated to the House on 20 November, representations seeking funding have been made to me by and on behalf of the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. I am aware of the very valuable work which the society carries out for the welfare of animals in the Dublin area and I was pleased to make a once-off grant of £50,000 last year to alleviate its financial difficulties. I am having the society's request for further assistance considered.
