Vol. 472 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

John O'Donoghue

Question:

118 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Justice whether she will ensure that Dromcollogher, Country Limerick will remain in the Mallow Garda Division; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24062/96]

Dromcollogher Garda sub-district has been part of the Mallow Garda district since 21 September 1991. Mallow Garda district is under the operational and administrative control of the new Cork north division.

Proposals have recently been received by my Department from the Garda authorities in relation to the possible transfer of the Dromcollogher Garda sub-district to the Newcastlewest Garda district. This matter is currently receiving attention and I hope to be in a position to make a decision in the matter in the near future. I must point out that in relation to such matters I must be guided by the operational knowledge and expertise of the Garda authorities and any decision on the matter will be based on the deployment of Garda personnel and resources to optimum effect to ensure that the best possible policing service to the area is provided.
