Vol. 472 No. 7

Written Answers. - Civil War in Sudan.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

73 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the peace initiatives, if any, to be taken to bring to an end the 13 year civil war in Sudan; and the steps, if any, to be taken to help relieve the suffering of thousands of people, particularly women and children, in the displaced persons' camps in the north of Sudan. [24122/96]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 45 of 12 November 1996 and Questions Nos. 102, 105 and 106 of 20 November 1996, which relate to this matter. I take this opportunity to reaffirm that Ireland, with our EU partners, continues to convey our concerns to the Sudanese authorities about the need to pursue the peace process in Sudan and to provide assistance to those who have suffered from the conflict.
