Vol. 472 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ireland-Iran Joint Commission.

Ray Burke

Question:

74 Mr. R. Burke asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the plans, if any, he has to travel to Tehran early in 1997 to chair a session of the Ireland-Iran Joint Commission in view of the request in this regard by the Iranian authorities. [24139/96]

As the Deputy is aware there have been some difficulties on both sides in fixing dates for the next meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Co-operation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ireland which is to be held in Tehran. My Department continues to have regular contact with the Iranian authorities and I am hopeful that a mutually convenient date can be found in 1997.
