Question:

79 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the total value of Exchequer funding which was utilised for the benefit of computerisation and related matters in State and semi-State sectors; the anticipated expenditure in this regard in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24114/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 75 and 79 together.

As the Deputy has tabled a question to all Departments regarding the amount of moneys spent in the Departments in 1995 and 1996 and that which it is proposed to spend in 1997, the information sought in respect of the total value of Exchequer funding in relation to computerisation should be available to him.

As regards my own Department, and the bodies under the aegis of my Department, viz. the Office of the Revenue Commissioners, the Office of Public Works, the State Laboratory, the Valuation and Ordnance Survey, the Civil Service Commission and the Office of the Ombudsman, the estimated amount of money spent on computerisation and related matters in 1995 was £16,166,000. The voted expenditure in relation to such matters, in 1996 was £1,039,000. It is proposed that approximately £10,956,000 will be spent on computerisation and related matters in 1997.

As regards the State companies under the aegis of my Department I have no responsibility for their day-to-day spending.
