Vol. 472 No. 7

Written Answers. - Incremental Credits.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

97 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education the number of people who have received incremental credits from her Department for teaching service in private schools in each of the years from 1990 to 1996; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24030/96]

Arrangements for the award of incremental credit are governed by the terms of agreement reached at the Conciliation Council for Teachers.

Incremental credit in respect of teaching service is awarded, subject to certain conditions and limits, on the basis that the service was given either in schools recognised by my Department or, in the case of service given abroad, in schools recognised by the appropriate Department of State of the country in which the service was given.

Teaching service in privately owned schools which are not recognised by the State does not qualify for the award of incremental credit. Credit has not, therefore, been awarded to any teacher in respect of teaching service in such schools.
