Question:

134 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health if he will agree that support services for people with disabilities in a health board's budget should not have to compete with other services, such as hospital services. [24566/96]

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 114 and 134 together.

In general, the additional resources voted by the Oireachtas for the development of health services must be allocated according to identified priorities. In this regard, considerable resources have been allocated in recent years towards the development of services for people with disabilities. These moneys have been ring-fenced in the allocations to ensure that they are fully applied to the provision of disability services. This procedure will continue to apply. The development of services for people with disabilities continues to be a priority for this Government.
