Question:

107 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the progress made on the proposal for, and planning of, the library at Dunshaughlin, County Meath, including the initiation of the proposal, the sanctioning and approval of this proposal, the sod turning, the various planning stages, and the costing and funding aspects of all other relevant steps on a date-by-date basis. [25037/96]

A preliminary proposal was received in March 1989 from Meath County Council for the provision of a new branch library in Dunshaughlin. Approval in principle was given in February 1992. Sketch design and cost plans were received in April 1992 and sanctioned in April 1993. The acceptance of a tender was sanctioned in April 1995. Construction of the branch library commenced soon afterwards and the library was opened to the public in September 1996. The approved budget for this project is £350,121. The approved maximum grant is £299,596 of which just over £145.000 has been paid to date.
