Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fire Brigade Appliances.

Mary Wallace

Question:

108 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment if he will clarify the details of the Dunshaughlin fire tender in County Meath, including the initiation of the proposal, the sanctioning and approval of funding of the project on a date by date basis. [25038/96]

The distribution of fire appliances among its brigades is a matter for the fire authority, in this case Meath County Council. The council applied in February 1993 for approval for four new appliances which it proposed to assign to various brigades, including Dunshaughlin. The application was considered having regard to the usual criteria, including value for money, fire services capital available, and the overall level of demand. Approval to invite tenders for one appliance was given in February 1994 and for a second appliance in December 1994. The tender proposal for this latter appliance which, I understand, has been assigned by the council to Dunslaughlin, was approved by my Department in December 1995 and the grant for the appliance was paid to the council in two instalments in June and December 1996.
