Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Building Projects.

Brendan Smith

Question:

138 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education the current stage of planning of the Arva number one national school project, County Cavan; when tenders will be invited in respect of this project; when construction work will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25081/96]

The current position on the project at Arva No. 1 national school is that my Department has been advised that planning permission was granted in respect of the approved plans. The school authorities have requested authorisation to proceed to contract-tender document stage and my Department will be in touch with the school authorities in the matter shortly. A decision on the timing of the tender process will be taken in light of existing contractual commitments and funding available for 1997. Both of these matters are currently under consideration. Accordingly, I am not in a position to state when tenders will be invited or construction is expected to commence.
