Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Joe Walsh

Question:

231 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of milk producers and the names of each producer in County Cork who were allocated an additional milk quota in each of the years 1995 and 1996; the volume of milk quota allocated to each successful applicant; and the existing milk quota of each successful applicant under each of the schemes operated by his Department. [24916/96]

My Department operates and-or controls various schemes within the milk quota system under which quota is allocated, sold or leased to producers who require additional quota. The majority of these are operated at co-operat-ive-dairy level and records of the names and other details including the location of individual beneficiaries are not maintained within my Department.

The Deputy will be aware that in all of these schemes, priority is given to smaller scale producers. In some, such as those involving the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal, other factors such as personal circumstances and hardship caused by the quota system are taken into account.
Details of individual applications made under the tribunal procedure are not published.
