Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Deployment.

Michael Ahern

Question:

258 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence if new recruits are to be posted to the Fitzgerald Camp, Fermoy, County Cork, from the next intake; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24960/96]

It is proposed to enlist 200 recruits in the Permanent Defence Force at the end of this month. Recruits are not assigned to units until final approval on completion of recruit training.

The deployment of members of the Permanent Defence Force, including recruits, is a matter for the military authorities in the light of the requirements of the force generally. Consequently no decision has been taken on the deployment of the proposed intake of recruits.
