Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Television Reception.

Michael Smith

Question:

257 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the plans, if any, he has for the retention of existing facilities for the provision of multi-channel television in the areas of Slieve-Ardagh and Killenaule. [25188/96]

I am informed by the licensed MMDS operator for the areas in question that there is good general coverage in the provision of multi-channel television there. There are some isolated parts where coverage is not so good but I understand that the company concerned are taking steps to improve it. They are, for instance, planning to improve services which should ameliorate the reception difficulties being experienced in the centre of Fethard. I have no reason whatever to believe that they would cease providing service in the areas in question. The information I have is that the company intends to roll out their service to the widest possible extent.

If, on the other hand the Deputy is referring to illegal retransmission systems in these areas he should know that I would have no information as regards their current or future intentions.
