The firm of Heneghan Public Relations Consultants have been engaged by me at a cost of £2,236.98 in 1996. Costs in 1997 will be met from subhead A7 of my Department's Vote.
Details of individuals, groups or companies engaged to undertake consultancies, reviews, examinations or analyses to whom payments were made in 1995 were given in my reply to Question No. 320 of 21 May, 1996. A payment of £7,500 was also made to the Marine Institute in that year, in respect of work on the Quality Status Report on the Celtic Seas required for the purposes of the Ospar Convention.
Work on some of the consultancies, reviews, examinations and analyses in respect of which payments were made in 1995 continued in 1996, and some of the individuals, groups or companies to whom payments were made in 1995 were engaged for further projects in the course of 1996. The amount provided in respect of consultancy services in subhead A7 of my Department's Vote in the 1997 Estimates for public services is £50,000. The Deputy may wish to note, however, that the cost of certain consultancies is met from other sources.
The appointment of persons, companies, consultants or otherwise to carry out work on behalf of semi-State bodies under the aegis of my Department is a matter for those bodies.
