Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Ivor Callely

Question:

32 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the cost of the Irish Presidency to his Department. [25140/96]

It is not possible at present to estimate the final cost of the Presidency to my Department. My Department received special allocations of £3.5 million in 1995 and £8.7 million in 1996 to cover the additional costs associated with the preparations for and the management of Ireland's Presidency of the European Union this year. Further costs will arise in 1997 as a result of Ireland's continuing membership of the EU Troika until 30 June 1997.
