Question:

58 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health the number of private beds planned for Tallaght Hospital; the way in which the beds will be financed; and if he will reports on the progress, if any, made in talks in respect of this matter between his Department and the Hospital Board. [25055/96]

Limerick East): Discussions between officials from the Department and representatives from the hospital on the provision of private and semiprivate care at the new hospital at Tallaght are at an advanced stage. While the precise quantum of such inpatient facilities and the financing of same has yet to be finalised, I understand that all parties are satisfied with the progress being made.

Question:

59 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health the way in which the beds at Tallaght Hospital will be split between the different specialities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25056/96]

Limerick East): The process for the allocation of beds between medical specialties in the new hospital at Tallaght is currently being developed by the hospital's senior management. A special group within the hospital is being assigned this work. This group will report through the hospital's medical board to the board of the hospital which will be responsible for the final decision on the matter.

Question:

60 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Health whether he plans to grant all or part of the additional £18 million being sought by Tallaght Hospital in order to update the facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25057/96]

Limerick East): The hospital authorities have recently made a submission to the Department seeking a significantly smaller grant than the sum mentioned by the Deputy. The submission is currently being examined by officers of the Department in consultation with the hospital management. Construction and commissioning of the hospital is proceeding satisfactorily and all essential facilities to ensure its prompt opening will be provided.
