Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ministerial Travel.

Ivor Callely

Question:

74 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the number of foreign trips made by him during 1996; the destination, purpose and duration of the trips; whether the Government jet or scheduled flights were used; the identity and designation of persons who accompanied him on each trip; the number, purpose and duration of each meeting attended by him on such trips; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25127/96]

Limerick East): I refer the Deputy to my reply to a previous parliamentary question (Ref. No. 23737/96) put down for answer on Tuesday, 10 December 1996 in relation to the usage of air transport for foreign and internal flights in 1996, and the related costs in this regard.

In my response, I provided details of the number of foreign trips which I made in 1996 with information regarding the destination, purpose, duration, cost and mode of transport used during the trips in question. I also provided details of the destination of persons who accompanied me. It is not normal procedure to name individual officers who accompany me on official trips either internally or abroad. The Deputy will appreciate that it would not be feasible for me to provide a breakdown of the duration of each meeting attended by me in this regard.
