Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - Medieval Dublin Excavations.

Ivor Callely

Question:

90 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will give details of the enhanced archaeological knowledge and understanding of medieval Dublin, further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 23 of 12 November 1996 from Deputy Callely, regarding excavation works in Dublin's inner city; if such knowledge will be documented and published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24963/96]

While answering supplementary questions relating to this matter on 12 November last, I advised the Deputy that I would provide him with any information which might become available relating to aspects of any excavation in the context of his general question. Having examined the matter further, I am now of the opinion that the best way of progressing this matter would be for the Deputy to provide precise details relating to the specific excavation he has in mind. On receipt of such details, I will have further inquiries carried out.
