303 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the amount spent on road upgrading works and new road schemes on a county by county basis in the most recent year for which figures are available. [1785/97]

The following table shows the expenditure on road improvement works on non-national roads carried out by county councils and financed from EU co-financed specific improvement grants; INTERREG (Border and maritime) grants; grants under the Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation; cross-Border road improvement grants; restoration programme (road reconstruction) grants; road reconstruction element of the discretionary improvement grants and the councils' own resources.
