Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Station Staff.

Michael Creed

Question:

420 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice when an additional post of clerical assistant will be filled at a Garda station (details supplied) in County Cork; and the procedures involved in filling this post. [1182/97]

There is an agreement in place with the Civil and Public Service Union, which applies to all Departments, to the effect that clerical assistant posts in provincial locations are filled by means of a standardised transfer system. The agreement provides that applications for transfers are recorded in order of the date of receipt of each application. When vacancies arise they must then be offered in this order.

The post in the Garda station in question will be filled as soon as a clerical assistant typist who is suitable, under Civil Service transfer arrangements described, is offered and accepts the position and is released from his/her present office or Department to take up duty. It is likely that the position will be filled within a month or so.
