Vol. 473 No. 6

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Michael Creed

Question:

198 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education the reason persons (details supplied) in County Cork have been refused higher education grants by County Cork Vocational Educational Committee. [2263/97]

Under the terms of the third level student support schemes, the reckonable income for the purposes of the award of a grant is gross income from all sources of the candidate and his/her parents or guardians, where applicable.

I understand from County Cork Vocational Education Committee, the body entrusted with the administration of the European Social Fund-aided maintenance grants scheme, that the reckonable income in the case of the students in question exceeds the reckonable income limit. They are, therefore, ineligible for student support.
