Vol. 473 No. 6

Written Answers. - Provision of Swimming Pool.

Robert Molloy

Question:

202 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has for the construction of a 50 metre world-standard indoor swimming pool; the reason for her rejection of the International Swimming Hall of Fame proposal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2267/97]

My Department has under consideration a number of proposals for the provision of a 50 metre pool, including the proposals received from the Dublin International Sports Council which have been developed in consultation with the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

As I have outlined in replies to previous parliamentary questions, the question of the provision of a 50 metre pool is being considered by the Sports Strategy Group in the context of the future development and funding of sports facilities at national and at community level. Pending the publication of the sports strategy report, which I expect to be available by mid-February, 1977, I am not in a position to give details of the progress of the project.
