Question:

175 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the tonnage of beef taken in and the cost per tender of deboning it in terms of all transport costs, all deboning costs and supervisory costs, since the reintroduction of intervention in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2445/97]

Since the reintroduction of intervention in April 1996 the total quantity of beef taken over during 1996 was 52,467 tonnes. The total cost of deboning, transport and supervisory functions in respect of this tonnage is estimated to be £13,738,989. These costs, on a tender basis, are tabulated as follows:
