Health boards have statutory responsibility for the provision of child care services in their respective regions. I understand the Deputy is concerned about the welfare of two brothers in this case.
The health board in question has reported that the eldest boy is currently staying at home and significant input is being provided by social workers. His mother declined a residential care placement which was offered. The child has a place on a day programme run by the probation and welfare service. The issue of counselling is being addressed.
The younger child has been placed in a residential centre managed by the board. His counselling needs are currently being assessed and will be provided for as appropriate. The Department of Education has given an undertaking to deal with the child's educational requirements.
