Vol. 474 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Resort Status.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

48 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Finance if he will extend the special resort status to Inishowen, County Donegal, in view of its special isolation and peripherality and the detrimental effects which it is experiencing following the breakdown in the IRA ceasefire; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2671/97]

The pilot renewal scheme for traditional seaside resorts commenced on 1 July 1995 for a three year period. It is in operation in 15 seaside towns around the country.

As I have said on numerous occasions, until this pilot scheme is firmly established and evaluated, it would seem inappropriate to consider either extending the scheme or designating any additional resorts.
